My name is Dixie Taylor. I paint in watercolor. The series of painting you will see here have sprung forth because I am horrified, on a soul level, by the impact of the Deepwater Horizon upon the ecology of my home.

You can use this site to purchase giclee prints of my paintings.

My canvases capture the devastation of our wetlands, paying homage to habitat, culture and a way of life. I am a guardian of nature, deeply dedicated to increasing awareness of our loss through visionary art. My creations are evocative, potent reminders of our tenuous relationship with our Mother, Earth. By capturing the pathos of oil drenched pelicans and other species, I'm chronicaling the rapidly changing terrain. As a visionary shaman, I am a path finder through this disaster. My art is a reminder, like cairn stones along the way. My creations reveal facets of a story that will be told over and over again as an admonition, with the hope that current and future generations honor our environment and effect positive change.

I was born into a Louisiana family which for three generations owned and operated a manufacturing plant. I have enjoyed a varied career, working as a professional musician and songwriter, actress, painter, poet, lawyer, writer, playwright, teacher and tattoo artist. I am the mother of two daughters. I breathe the best when I am a mother. I received my BA in theatre, with a minor in English from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1978, and I received my Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University in 1986. I currently live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The rest, they say, is history.

My first exhibit consisted of a series of seven watercolors of Trees at the Baton Rouge Arts Council, entitled “Ghost Tree goes a Walking,” and I have made in-kind donations for the Recycled Art Auction in support of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge, and for the Black Home Educators of America. I once had 35 of my paintings of trees hung in my hallway. It felt like a forest. I loved it.

Thanks for reading through to this point. I have enabled some of my paintings to be made into stamps- actual 44 cent stamps to be used for First-Class Mail in the United States. When you order the stamps, $4.44 from each order (my entire profit) will be sent to the Abita Beer/SOS campaign. Your cost will be $24.00. Additionally, for people ordering $1,500 worth of prints, for an additional $150 per person, you can come to my house, and eat a home cooked dinner with me and my family. I'm doing that to raise money- I intend to donate your money over the cost of the meal to the SOS campaign- but I cook pretty good, too.
